Pictures of the Pelican Landing Volunteer Turtle Patrol who helped me release 13 hatchlings in the dark last week. The hatchlings were rescued from a nest up near Venice, which had been predated by an armadillo after the hatch.
Apparently, as the palm trees at Pelican Landing were being
trimmed, a baby owl was disturbed from his nest in one of the palm trees,
and he perched himself on Leo Hughes' air conditioner. When Natalie and I
first saw the owl, we thought he was a small stuffed animal left as a palm
rat deterrent by Mr. Leo Hughes. We were very surprised when the small
little creature moved his head and eyes to follow us. Needless to say, he
was scared to death!
Shortly afterwards, Diane Tews called animal control, and an animal
control officer took him to the safety of the animal shelter. Attached are
some pictures of this remarkable little creature.....the children are
Diane's grandchildren.
Warmly,
Patty Thompson
