Moving Your Computer
Before and After the Season
If you move your computer back and forth between Florida and your summer home
and the computer is not a laptop, you need to keep the following in mind:
- When you bought the computer, it came with setup and documentation
CD-ROMS. You will need these with you if anything goes wrong with your
computer. You will need the Windows CD-ROM for adding printers and other
hardware. Always have these CD-ROMS with the computer.
- If you own the property in Florida, it is inexpensive to keep a monitor,
keyboard, and printer at each location and only move the computer itself. The
printers do not have to be identical. The computer can have drivers for more
than one printer. The computer will detect which printer is attached.
- If you have a problem starting your computer after a move, take the casing
cover off and check for loose connectors, cards, and chips.
- Be sure to have a surge protector at each location.
