AOL Attachment
This is specific for
AOL users, but may be applicable in part to other e-mail systems.
You can attach both
picture and text files to your e-mail. If you have a long message it is
often better to write it in a word processor and save and attach the
file to your e-mail. This does not tie up your telephone line as long
and will allow you to type long messages and start and stop without
being logged of your service. You will also have a copy of your message
on your hard disk.
Note: The
recipient must have his own word processor which can read your file.
You must know the
name of the file you wish to send and its location in the folder
structure on the hard disk. AOL assumes a location of C:\My
Documents\AOL Downloads
You can save or move
your files there. You can also give them a descriptive name.

- Click on
DOWNLOAD and then
DOWNLOAD NOW. This will open a file structure window. Either
select SAVE to save it to the default folder which is C:\My
Documents\AOL Downloads or select another folder. Make sure that
you write down the folder and file name so that you can find the file
again.
- When the file has
finished downloading AOL will give you the option of opening the file
now or later. To open the file later use the folder structure per
Moving and Renaming files section above to locate the file. Double
click on the file and it should open with your program.
- If it is a text
file from a different word processor you must first open your word
processor and from within it open the file. If you are on the correct
folder, try changing the file type to *.* and then selecting the file.
Normally a word processor shows only its own files. *.* shows all
files in the folder.
